Housing and Dining

With a population of 92,289, Bellingham is a welcoming and safe community offering the advantages of a larger city and charm of a coastal town. Western students call Bellingham an adventure, a breath of fresh air, and a great place to call home.

There is no requirement for Western students to live on campus, but more than 95 percent of our on-campus students recommend living with us. Guided by our residential curriculum, on-campus residents will progress in three major areas: inclusive community building, career preparedness and personal wellness.

Living on your own off campus is a big step into the world of adulting! Off Campus Living helps students learn about the ins and outs of renting, tenant rights and responsibilities, and supports commuter students on and off campus. They also help connect students living off campus to resources for commuters on campus and the WWU community.

Dining at Western is a campus-wide experience, full of flexibility, convenience and value. Students can choose from three residential dining commons options and 12 cafés and markets.

Meal Plans: Students who live on campus are required to choose a meal plan, and commuter meal plans are available for students who live off campus but may wish to dine on campus from time to time.

Dining Dollars: Similar to a debit account attached to the student ID card, Dining Dollars cannot be overdrawn. Dining Dollars do roll over from Fall to Winter, and Winter to Spring Quarter, but will expire at the end of the academic year.
