The Ethnic Student Center
VU 420
What is it?
The Ethnic Student Center is a safe and supportive environment for historically underrepresented groups and allies. Located on the 4th floor of the Viking Union, the ESC provides resources and a comfortable environment where students can work on event programming, do homework, or just hang out. Our theme this year is Generations: Continuing a Culture of Conscious Community.
The heart of the center belongs with the many ESC student clubs and organizations. The ESC clubs and organizations have open membership for all students, and they provide a variety of opportunities for student involvement, a means to meet new friends and learn more about our different cultures and experiences. Our current roster of clubs and organizations include:
African Caribbean Club
Black Student Union
Brown Pride
Filipino American Student Association
Hui O’ Hawaii
Latino Student Union
Mixed Identity Student Organization
MEChA, El Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano/a de Aztlán
Muslim Student Association
Native American Student Union
South Asian Student Association
Vietnamese Student Association
With the student clubs and organizations, the ESC brings an amazing repertoire of cultural and educational programs throughout the year. Our event calendar is always packed with opportunities for anyone to enrich themselves with an amazing experience. Some of these programs include, but are not limited to: cultural dinners and celebrations such as the annual Luau and Black History Month Dinner, Pow-Wow, LowRider Show, Building Unity Leadership Trainings, Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, International Women’s Day Celebration, Malcolm X Celebration, International Night, and much more!
